At 1646 we work with artists who approach complex ideas and life questions by means of fiction, humor and lots of color. In the center of The Hague these artists introduce us to another way of seeing, so that we can imagine the world differently. At the same time, they embrace and celebrate the complexity of life with an open attitude.
A lot of the artists we work with at 1646 show their work in The Hague or even The Netherlands for the very first time. At 1646, artists get the trust, means and space to experiment and make new work. That way, 1646 introduces extraordinary art to the Dutch audience before it’s on view in big museums all around the world.
