Old Catholic Parish of Saints James and Augustine, The Hague
Located at Juffrouw Idastraat 7
This is a hidden church that cannot be seen from the street. At the time, the law prohibited the construction of Catholic churches. However, the founding priest, Willem Frederik van Dalenoord, managed to arrange for the municipal authorities of The Hague to grant a building permit on the condition that the church could neither be seen nor heard. Therefore, no bells were allowed. The church was completed in 1722. Its perfectly preserved interior is exceptionally rich and ornate — a hidden gem.
Gallery 44, Molenstraat 44
Gallery 44 is situated in the heart of the Hofkwartier district, one of the oldest surviving parts of The Hague. It is a small gallery with free admission, showcasing art of high quality. At times the exhibitions feature paintings, at others sculptures and installations, or a combination of these forms. Gallery 44, an initiative of the Old Catholic Parish of The Hague, aims to provide a platform for contemporary visual artists.
