Museum Ship Hendrina Johanna, built in 1905, supplied many neighborhoods along The Hague’s canals with building materials more than 100 years ago. But not only the canal-side buildings—this ship also transported the bricks for the Peace Palace. Museum Ship Hendrina Johanna, known as “de Hagenaar”, provides a vivid illustration of a special period of sailing cargo transport to and from The Hague. The ship shows what life was like for skippers between 1905 and the Second World War. On board there is an exhibition that tells more about life on this inland vessel, in all its aspects and sometimes hardships.
Museum Ship Hendrina Johanna, which no longer sails, is a project of Stichting De Ooievaart.
The museum ship is moored at the Wagenbrug on the Bierkade in The Hague. Access is via the jetty; please report in advance at Haagse Hop, Bierkade 19, 2512 AB The Hague.
