This year Huygens’ Hofwijck is showing antique and special Christmas and New Year cards in the presentation Christmas Wishes. The first Christmas cards were put on the market in the mid-nineteenth century, but the tradition of the Christmas wish dates back to centuries earlier. The warm images on the cards from the nineteenth and twentieth centuries radiate Victorian cosiness, the living room full of family, gifts and a richly decorated Christmas tree. But also Santa Claus, winter landscapes and the nativity scene are favorites. Hofwijck is also completely in the Christmas spirit, the garden is festively lit and the Christmas tree shines in the Pronkzaal.
